Who We Are
The Big Red Barn Retreat (BRBR) is committed to supporting Veterans and First
Responders by providing free access to programs and services that promote healing
and Post Traumatic Growth (PTG). Our mission is to help these courageous individuals
transform the challenges of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) into opportunities
for personal and professional growth, enabling them to return stronger and more
present in their daily lives.
What We Do
At the Big Red Barn Retreat, there are several ways to volunteer, including:
Food Preparation
Our Food Preparation program involves cooking and serving meals for our service members at a variety of events.
This can include making, preparing or donating food.
Set-up and clean-up of food for events.
Working with sharp cooking utensils and hot cooking devices may be required depending on the activity.
We allow both individual and group volunteers to participate in Food Preparation. This is our main volunteer opportunity for individual volunteers.
Gardening
Gardening is a wonderful activity to help reduce stress and anxiety by providing a soothing rhythm through routines like watering and weeding. It also helps to lighten your mood and improve happiness and life satisfaction. Getting your hands in the soil can trigger the release of serotonin, a natural antidepressant, in the brain.
Join us at the Big Red Barn Retreat for gardening workshops or seasonal/monthly garden work days where we work in the garden planting and growing vegetables and fruits for every season.
Turning Over/Resetting Cabin Rooms
As a cabin reset volunteer, you will assist in flipping the cabins from class-to-class. Duties will include cleaning rooms, changing sheets, doing laundry, and assisting the cooks by helping put away groceries.
